About EMHS

Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS) is a pioneering regional healthcare system that has served all of central, eastern, and northern Maine, and has now expanded into southern Maine with the welcoming of Mercy to the EMHS family. The growing EMHS network of hospitals, physician practices, home health agencies, long-term care facilities and other health delivery organizations offers access to high quality healthcare while striving to control costs and stabilize availability.

EMHS is reinventing how we deliver care, ensuring that Maine people continue to receive the right care, at the right time, and in the right place. To provide the very best care while saving costs, we have endeavored to create an environment that rewards us for how healthy we keep people rather than how many tests and procedures we order.

Beacon Community Initiative

As one of only 17 federal Beacon sites in the nation, EMHS partnered with other Bangor region healthcare organizations to create a health delivery model that not only helps make care more cost-efficient, but easier to navigate and easier to understand. Please click here for more details on the Bangor Beacon Community initiative.

Accountable Care

Following our successful Bangor Beacon Community experience, EMHS was invited to be one of 32 Pioneer accountable care organizations in the nation, piloting a program intended to improve the coordination, efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and cost of healthcare. While Accountable Care organizations are primarily intended to improve the care delivered to Medicare patients, the model is transforming the overall healthcare delivery system, with approximately 22,000 people currently covered within the EMHS Beacon Health model.

Leadership and Commitment

The Mission, Vision and core Values of EMHS underscore the system’s leadership and commitment to developing high-quality, value-based, healthcare services.
