Bishop Deeley Announces Additional Priest Assignment

    Bishop Robert P. Deeley has announced that Fr. Donal MacVeigh, S.J., an emeritus professor at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey, will serve as part-time hospital chaplain at Mercy Hospital and Maine Medical Center, both in Portland, and part-time parochial vicar at Our Lady of Hope Parish (St. Joseph Church, Portland; St. Pius X Church, Portland), effective April 15.
     

     
    Fr. MacVeigh holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in physics from Fordham University and earned his doctorate in computer and information science from Syracuse University.
     
    From 1992 to 2015, he served as a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Saint Peter’s University, including two stints as chair of the department (1993-2001; 2007-2015). Fr. MacVeigh has had several scholarly articles published and has led many local, regional, and national academic committees.
     
    Most recently, he was appointed assistant pastor at Saints Mary and Joseph Parish in Salem, New Hampshire, in August of 2015.
