Dr. Harry E. Davis Pediatric Center Established at Mercy

The family of the late Harry E. Davis, MD, a beloved pediatrician at Mercy and well-known member of the Portland community, has made a generous gift in support of the program that will forever bear the patriarch’s name.

The John and Patricia Klingenstein Fund and the Sadie and Harry Davis Foundation, Inc., have donated $250,000 to support Mercy’s pediatrics program which will now be known as the Dr. Harry E. Davis Pediatric Center.
“This generous donation will support our growing pediatrics program,” explains Eileen Skinner, President and CEO of Mercy. “Investing in Maine’s children was a priority of Dr. Harry Davis and we are proud to share his name with our pediatrics program.  Dr. Davis served Mercy for many years and made a lasting impact on many patients.  We welcome this gift with gratitude.”
Harry Davis received his medical training from Tufts Medical School in 1919, after which he interned first at the Chelsea Memorial Hospital and later at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC. He did postgraduate work in the children’s division of Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Dr. Davis returned to Portland in the early 1920s to work as a pediatrician, and served as Chief of Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital from 1943 until his death in 1963.
"My father would have been so proud to have his name associated with this new center,” stated his daughter, Patricia Davis Klingenstein.
