Mercy Hospital names new senior physician executive

Mercy Hospital announced the appointment of Michael Duffy, MD to senior physician executive, the hospital’s most senior medical position. Since joining Mercy in 2010, Dr. Duffy has assumed roles that include regional physician executive of Mercy Hospital and medical director of primary care. He has also served as the vice president of the Mercy Medical Group since 2016.
“Dr. Duffy has a proven track record in physician leadership, and we are excited that he has accepted this new position,” said Charlie Therrien, president of Mercy Hospital. “Dr. Duffy brings sound leadership, a true passion for Mercy’s mission, and a real focus on the patient experience to his new role.”

Duffy, who is board-certified in family medicine, earned his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and his medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed his residency at the University of Wyoming Community Health Center in Casper, Wyoming.

“Mercy is a very special place where people work together to create a caring atmosphere that provides true therapeutic value for patients as well as staff,” said Duffy. “I feel very fortunate to consider myself part of this wonderful family.”

Duffy began his career as a full-scope family medicine provider in rural Idaho’s Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), where he was later appointed medical director. His practice included obstetrics, inpatient, outpatient, emergency room coverage, procedures, and minor surgeries. In response to Hurricane Katrina, Duffy spent three months in New Orleans serving as the medical director of a mobile medical unit. He also established a mobile medical service in and around New Orleans that is still in operation today.
